About the Department:
The department of Sociology, Government Model College Kaziranga was established on December 2020 with Higher Secondary Programme, Bachelors Programme. The department is dedicated towards generating competent and socially sensitive graduates through teaching/training programme. It trains students to grasp the social structures, understand the social processes, map the dynamics of social change and make sense of individual and collective experiences in their proper social context. The department places emphasis on integrated learning based on classroom lectures, interactive tutorials, use of audio-visual material, seminars, extension lectures and coordinated-multipronged internal assessment.
Mission of the Department:
The mission of Department of Sociology is to develop sociological imagination and critical thinking in our students and also create an active learning environment. The department aims to promote scientific understanding of social life through teaching and service activities.
Objectives
1. Create an educational environment that supports diversity and inclusion
2. Maintain a quality undergraduate and graduate program in Sociology
3. Encourage community engagement among students and faculty
4. To promote critical understanding with the help of interdisciplinary approach
5. To negotiate and interrogate the different social issues such as social stratification,
social movements, conflict, modernisation , globalisation ,environment and social
change.
6. To provide theoretically sound and methodologically grounded education.
7. To inculcate orientation of research in young mind.
8. To Promote blended mode of Education where both offline and online classes will be
there.
Future Action Plan:
1. To establish a department library so that it will encourage the students for reading and
writing.
2. To establish digital lab for the students to access different e-resources
3.The department will use ICT tools in the Teaching and Learning process
4. The department will develop placement cell to encourage the students in applying various
avenues of the field of Sociology.
